Perhaps the most popular American variety used in home/craft brewing and applicable to a wide range of styles, Cascade provides the complex fruit of freshly ripened grapefruit, orange and other citrus notes in pale ale, IPA and Imperial IPA.  The varietal has found inclusion in American wheat, porter, barley wine, American brown ale, amber ale, California common and numerous other styles.

Blending with Citra and Centennial in pale ale, Cascade adds brightness to the aroma and flavor profile of the finished beer. In Texas brown ale, the hop complements the darker malts with a rich fruitiness without clashing. For American wheat ale, Cascade adds intense citrus notes, harmonizing with the grainy freshness of wheat and muted esters of American wheat strains.

For brewers considering a classic version of Pale ale or IPA, Cascade and Centennial, especially in dry hop additions, results in piney, citrus orange, grapefruit flavors and aromas and is a classic combination. Every brewer should learn to create a pale ale with the above blend of hops.
