Grown in the United States, the North American version of Fuggle has been described as mild, woody and fruity with a hint of forest earth. A traditional ale hop, the varietal finds utilization in finishing and dry hopping applications. Often combined with Goldings to increase drinkability, Fuggle is great for bitters, pale ale, porter, stout, and Lambic styles.
Typical A.A: 4 – 5.5%
Possible Substitiutions: Willamette, Styrian Goldings, or US Tettnang
In coffee porter or porter’s in general, Fuggles provides complementary earthy quality to the aromatics of the dark malt. For best results, add 1 oz of Fuggles to the wort at flame out per every 5 – gallon batch.
