With specially selected dark malt extracts and specialty grains, the Whisky Barrel Stout imparts a pleasurable bouquet of chocolate and roast. To provide the flavors of whiskey and oak, a package of genuine oak whiskey barrel chips have been included in the kit.
Contents of the kit include: ingredients, bottle caps, priming sugar, and brewing procedures.
Fermentables: 3.3 pounds of Special Dark Liquid Malt Extract (LME); 3.3 pounds of Light LME; and 1 pound of Amber Dried Malt Extract (DME).
Specialty grains: 6 ounces of Roasted Barley, 8 ounces of Dark Chocolate, and 8 ounces Caramel 90L.
Hops: 1/2 ounce of Millenium hops and a 1/2 ounce pack of Cluster (hops may vary due to availability).
Yeast: 1 sachet and
Oak chips: 2.5 ounces of whisky barrel chips.

To upgrade the yeast to a liquid culture, purchase the Wyeast 1056 American Ale yeast separately. Providing a clean, neutral flavor profile, the strain ferments dry and crisp, allowing the malt and hop to dominate. (Additional yeast sold separately.)
Alternatively, choose the 1084 Irish Ale Yeast or the 1098 British Ale yeast as both strains ferment dark worts cleanly, enhancing the flavors and aromas of the dark malts while adding fruit notes to the finished beer.
