Fitted with a ¼” barb, the stainless steel stone assembly has a 1/2" national pipe thread opposite the barb. The stone is fashioned with 2-micron pores.
Essentially designed for utilization in "inline oxygenation assemblies", the ½” NPT Oxygen Stone can be used as a replacement in existing systems in the event of clogging or the need for a new stone.
To build an oxygenation system, the ½” NPT Oxygen Stone can be placed in-line near the wort outlet of a plate chiller either as a permanent or temporary installation.
Simply screw the thread of the stone into the 1/2" female fitting of a stainless T pipefitting so the stone sits perpendicular to the pipe. Thread the T between the outlet of the chiller and the exit tubing leading to the fermentation tank. Once the stone has been threaded into the T and the T has been connected to the proper piping between the chiller and the fermenter, attach a 1/4" air hose to the barb and to an O2 tank opposite. Begin chilling the wort, turn on the oxygen and easily aerate the wort. Alternatively, the ¼” hose connected to the barb can be attached to an air pump.
For best results, fill the fermenter with approximately, 1/3 to ½ the total volume of the batch prior to oxygenating the wort through the stone, depending on the flow rate through the chiller. If utilizing gravity, fill the fermenter to ½ full. Or, while using a pump, fill the fermenter about 1/3 full before turning on the oxygen.
To properly monitor the wort temperature exiting from the chiller, include a bi-metal probe thermometer such as Brew and Grows ½” NPT with 2” probe in the above assembly.
To properly clean the stone, unthread and soak in a cleanser such as PBW or Craft Meister, rinse and sanitize. Alternatively, following removal of the stone from the installation, soak in a cleanser, rinse in hot water and boil the stone for 5 minutes to properly sterilize the ½” NPT Oxygen Stone assembly.
